hey there!

I’m Julianne.

my pronouns are she/her, and I live in Durham, North Carolina! I’m an introverted, soft-hearted mush with an unending need to document what I see in front of me.

iconic middle-school mirror selfies → college procrastination portrait sessions → visual memories of live music → capturing people’s most special memories

I started out in wedding photography trying to be like everybody else. after figuring out a giant list of things that weren’t working for me, I’m back, and I’m running this business on my terms now.

you’ll notice that I’m not really on social media very much. oh well. I blog only sporadically. that’s okay. my editing style isn’t what you’ll find elsewhere. let’s roll with it. I’ve accepted that the way my brain works isn’t the same as that of a lot of other entrepreneurs, and I’m finding ways to make things work for me. along the same vein, I’d love to find a way to make photography work for you.

I’ve always been drawn to the phenomenon of vision. in my graduate research, I studied vision neuroscience, particularly how our brains decide what, out of all the things we see at any given moment, to pay attention to. I love being able to incorporate what I found in my research to create compelling images that draw your eye to something beautiful or unexpected.

even though a lot of my time is spent shooting and editing, I dedicate one day a week to photography and business classes. I’m an insatiable learner with two Master’s degrees already; at this rate I’ll probably end up with a third before long — and I’m okay with that!
